Rodney's Corner
Good Morning loved ones!
Thank you for your patience. It is a very busy time here at the Main Street church of Christ. I had to let some things go in order to get some things accomplished. Staying on track with the Newsletter is one of those things I am behind in. Let's study and think together.
I have always enjoyed a good quote:
"I used to be indecisive but now I am not quite sure."
Tommy Cooper"The word tomorrow was invented for indecisive people and for children."
Ivan Turgenev
Loved ones,
What can get in the way of our salvation? In the last newsletter we discussed our mission. Is our mission in life to save ourselves, our families, and others from sin? The mission of Christ was to save the lost of this world (I Timothy 1:15) and he has commanded us to continue to live out this very mission in our lives (Matthew 28:18-20).
What can get in our way of achieving salvation? Answer; Indecisiveness will always get in the way. Here are two quick thoughts about the dangers of practicing indecisiveness.
First, the indecisive always struggle with accepting the means by which salvation is achieved. The Indecisive struggle to see Truth as Truth. They struggle with the fact that Truth will always be Truth. When we (as created beings from God) absolutely know something, we have a tendency to stand for that discovered "Truth" while allowing it to play a role in our decision making. It seems in our present day that when it comes to the question of "how salvation occurs?" More people are fighting for what they think instead of teaching what they know. This cultivates a society of confusion, extreme skepticism, and indecisiveness rather than minds that believe that Truth can actually exist in terms of how to be saved. The more that we know absolutely about salvation, the less likely we are to be indecisive on how it is achieved. If we absolutely know what we believe and stand firm on what we know we will not be moved when the storms of life come. We will have peace in the time of the storm.
Secondly, the indecisive bump into people that are mission minded. I was in Wal-Mart the other day but this was different then other days that I am used to. As you know, Wal-mart is known for its slow pace and tranquil atmosphere, not hardly! Usually, I know exactly what I am sent to purchase and I breeze by people while smiling at the little babies that are being pushed along by parents. I go right to the item or items, grab what is needed, and I find a self checkout that is ready for me.
A particular day that I have in mind was different because I had no list from my wife (no direction), and I was trying to decide what to purchase while already in the chaos, too late! I was bumping into people and getting trapped by carts that were at a standstill. To make matters worse, I was almost destroyed by one of those unholy automated carts that are driven by customers through out the store all because I was practicing indecisiveness. I would go down one aisle change my mind and turn around only to run smack into an elderly lady with a full cart. It was awful!
Think of an army marching in unison. One indecisive solder can botch the whole marching sequence. How is this possible? Because instead of focusing on the sequence of the unified movement, the indecisive soldier would be struggling within on whether or not he/she even desired to be a soldier at all. This is just as true in the church that Christ established. I Cor. 1:10
Loved ones, we must lovingly take the time to train those that desire to be in relationship with the Lord so that they are in step with their brothers and sisters in Christ.
So many different "religions", but only one true Choice. Let us be indecisive on whether or not to order the tater tots or the fries at supper time not on such matters as how to reach heaven. Let us allow the Bible to be our road map for it is the only sure way to know if we are on the right road. II Timothy 3:16-17
My point is simply this, God WANTS for you to be with him forever, but he EXPECTSyou to Choose and be decisive about your eternal destiny. John 3:16
Let us be decisive and forthright about our decision to be called Christian. Let us learn to agree on what it means to be saved and the means by which one is saved. Let us walk in unison and stand arm in arm for the cause of Christ. Thank you for your time. I love each one of you dearly!
Rest assured, God is not (nor will ever be) the author of confusion.
I am thankful for each and every one of you! May you have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
Your Friend,
Rod
